Background and Aim: The relation between TOOTH size and lower ANTERIOR crowding has been studied previously, but remains inconclusive. The aim of this study was to investigate the relation between TOOTH size and lower ANTERIOR crowding.Materials and Methods: This case –control study was performed on dental casts of sixty 13 to 15 year– old school children divided in 2 groups. Group I consisted of 30 dental casts of patients with 5 mm or more crowding in lower ANTERIOR region as the study group, and group II consisted of 30 dental casts of subjects without crowding as controls. Maximum MD TOOTH size of four lower incisors were measured and recorded to nearest 0.1 mm. Comparison between groups were performed using the T-test.Results: The deviation of TOOTH size was 24.86±1.77 mm and 23.16±1.25 mm in crowded and non crowded subjects respectively. Statistically there was no a significant differences between two groups when compared. Conclusion: This study shows that the TOOTH size is not the only determining factor in the origin of crowding. Other factors can be associated with malalignment.

Abstract:

Introduction: Currently, a substance called casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate has been used as a substitute for fluoride mouthwash. This study aimed to compare the remineralization rate of fluoridated GC TOOTH mousse with concomitant use of fluoride mouthwash and GC TOOTH mousse on demineralized enamel lesions.Materials & Methods: In this laboratory study, 50 samples were selected from 30 intact human premolars, halved into buccal and lingual segments, and randomly divided into five groups. Enamel health was recorded using a DIAGNOdent device and Vickers micro hardness test.Afterwards, the remineralized agents were applied to the surface of samples for two weeks as follows: 1) Control, 2) Fluoridated GC TOOTH mousse, 3) GC TOOTH mousse, 4) Sodium fluoride mouthwash and 5) Sodium fluoride mouthwash+GC TOOTH mousse. Repeatedly, enamel remineralization values were recorded via DIAGNOdent device, and data were analyzed using one-way and two-way repeated measures ANOVA tests. Results: Our findings indicated that no significant difference was observed between remineralization rate of fluoridated GC TOOTH mousse and concomitant use of fluoride mouthwash and GC TOOTH mousse, evaluated by DIAGNOdent device (P=0.959) and Vickers micro hardness test (P=0.884).Conclusion: According to the results, application of fluoridated GC TOOTH mousse with concomitant use of fluoride mouthwash and GC TOOTH mousse had a similar impact on remineralization of demineralized enamel lesions.

Abstract:

Introduction: In restorative dentistry, selecting the proper material is an important factor for clinical success. The objective of this study was clinical evaluation of survival time of three TOOTH color materials in primary ANTERIOR teeth. Methods: In this interventional clinical trial study, 94 deciduous ANTERIOR teeth (36 teeth in boys, 58 teeth in girls) belonging to 3-5 year old children in Pediatric Department of Mashhad Faculty of Dentistry, Iran were selected. Selective dental materials included compoglass, glass-ionomer Fuji II LC, and composite resin. The data were analyzed with Kaplan–Meyer and Log rank test. Results: compoglass had the highest survival time in comparison with composite and glass-ionomer. Nine months retention rate for teeth restored with compoglass, composite resin and glass-ionomer were estimated: 95%, 21%, and 12.5%, respectively. Conclusion: Compoglass can be a suitable material for ANTERIOR primary teeth restoration.

Abstract:

Dentigerous cysts are commonly seen in association with third molars and maxillary canines. Only 5–, 6% of dentigerous cysts are associated with supernumerary teeth. We report a rare case of dentigerous cyst associated with an impacted ANTERIOR maxillary supernumerary TOOTH (mesiodens). A 30-year-old male reported to our Department of Oral Medicine, School of Dentistry at Hamedan University of Medical Sciences, with chief complaint of a painless swelling in the ANTERIOR upper jaw (in the region of incisors) for a duration of 3 month. At the time of his presentation, his medical history was unremarkable, with no systemic problems and no report of pain. Although the association of dentigerous cyst with an impacted supernumerary TOOTH (mesiodens) is rare, prevention of harmful complications as developmental cyst, early diagnosis and treatment is necessary. The standard treatment is Enucleation.

Abstract:

A 22 year old female with chief complaint of tenderness of the masticatory muscles and joint sound referred to Prosthodontic Department of Shiraz Dental School. The patient expressed the history of nocturnal bruxism and pain in the masticatory muscles in early morning that decreased with time. In extraoral examination, there was no facial asymmetry and masseters of both sides were tender with palpation. In intraoral examination, excessive wear of the ANTERIOR and posterior teeth and several wear fascets on the posterior teeth wear were found. Overjet was 0 mm and overbite was -1 mm which was due to excessive wear of the ANTERIOR teeth. There was a single click while opening and closing the mouth in the right TMJ, but both right and left TMJs were tender during examination. There were interferences in the centric relation both in the arc of closure and line of the closure. At first, stabilization appliance was made for the patient to relax the masticatory muscles and to reduce their pain. The patient wore the appliance for 4 months. Then occlusal equilibration was done for her in order to achieve bilateral, even and simultaneous contacts in the centric relation. After that without increasing the OVD, the upper and lower ANTERIOR teeth were reconstructed with composite resin so that in the excursive movements the ANTERIOR teeth could exclude the posterior teeth out of the occlusion. This treatment approach is affordable for patients because it minimizes the need for orthodontic and extensive prosthodontic treatments.

Abstract:

Replacement and reattachment of a newly detached composite TOOTH pontic is sometimes justified because of shape, color, function and patient satisfaction. The aim of this case report is to describe a new method using Rigid Tray Technique for exact replacement and reattachment of acceptable detached composite TOOTH pontic.

Abstract:

Background and Aim: Central incisors are important in achieving facial aesthetics and correct phonetics. This study evaluated the amount of incisal edge exposure (IEE) of upper and lower central incisors (UCIs, LCIs) with the lips in resting position, and its correlation with patients’ age and sex. The present investigation was also designed to assess practical methods for clinical evaluation of patients. Materials and Methods: One-hundred twenty patients between 20-49 years were included in this study. None of the participants had gingival recession, periodontal/gingival diseases, traumatized lips, TOOTH mobility/extrusion or prostheses replacing ANTERIOR teeth. Age, sex and occlusal and molar relationships (Angle’s classification) were recorded. IEE, Incisogingival length (IgL) of the UCIs and LCIs and lip length (LL) in resting position were measured for each patient using a metal ruler. IEE, IgL and LL were analyzed according to sex and age by t-test. Fischer’s exact test was used to verify the relation between IEE and Ig with LL. Results: The mean averages of IEE and IgL of the UCIs and LCIs were larger in men than women; however the difference was not significant in LCIs. The mean average of LL was 24.07mm and 21.2mm in males and females, respectively. IEE decreased in the UCIs and increased in the LCIs with advancing age, but this difference was not significant in the LCIs. The following formula was calculated according to the obtained data: IEE-Right-Upper = 5.29 – 0.16 LL IEE-Left-Upper = 5.18 - 0.159 LL.Conclusion: These findings can be used as a diagnostic aid for selecting appropriate IEEs allowing maximum dentofacial aesthetics.
